SEO can be a confusing and daunting task for any new marketer or business owner. With all the chatter about things that can go wrong it’s no wonder that small business owners and other marketers don’t even want to touch SEO techniques.
There’s different methods, different reasons to do SEO, different channels. With all the variety, it’s enough to confuse any business owner to the point that they won’t even know where to start.
If you set yourself up with a plan from day 1, it can help you stay on task. If you just have information swimming around in your head about what to do, even if you know what SEO techniques to use, you’re going to be left holding the ball without any clear understanding of what to do next.
A daily gameplan will help you decide exactly what SEO techniques you’re going to employ each day for your search engine optimization campaign. This can eliminate a lot of confusion and uncertainty about where to move on to as you’re essentially developing a complete battleplan.
For starters, take the time every day to produce at least 1 piece of content for your business as part of your SEO campaign. People rarely just “stroll by” your website, you have to call attention to your site and your brand. Use written content to position yourself in a better light as well as generate organic links to your website. Any written content is better than none, so find the right medium (blogs, articles, press releases) and start publishing.
Make sure you’re engaging your followers within social networking sites and take about 15 minutes every day to try to network with new people. It’s in your best interest to develop relationships and work to bond and connect with those people that you follow (or that follow you). For the best relationship building, be consistent with updates and always devote time to your followers daily.
Some SEO techniques aren’t just about action, they’re about planning and strategizing. Included in that is maintenance. Your rank in the search engines is an important part of your SEO campaign and as such you should spend time every day checking your position in the SERPs for your targeted keywords and see where your competition stands (are they moving, are you moving, etc.)
Monitor your competition closely, because their behavior and how they market directly impacts you. It may not change your own rank on the web in a direct fashion, but indirectly they can bump you. Consider that there are only so many spots on page 1 of Google for your targeted keywords. The SEO techniques they use can mean all the difference between a 1st spot, 1st page listing and… somewhere else. Since website are websites and no one gets favored with the search engines, that means the same thing applies to you.
These tips just scratch the hull of the massive SEO technique ship. Strategy can save you a lot of heartache and investment, and strong search engine optimization techniques will help you improve the presence of your website – but only if you’re consistent about your work and hold fast. It won’t happen overnight but it will happen.
