I’ve been fairly hush hush about a project I’ve been working on, which the title alludes to here. I’m well aware that there is an abundance of Twitter information on the web, from free content to paid content and all of it falling somewhere in between “completely relevant” and “not at all relevant”.
There’s a lot that’s wrapped up in the <title removed for the protection of those involved> project – mainly a lot of material to help the average marketer step outside of their little foxhole and finally do some damage. It will also be comprehensive enough that someone with no knowledge of how to market with Twitter could snap it up and start connecting.
Should I also mention that since I’m involved in software architecture…that there will be goodies involved with that bundle?
I should stop while I’m ahead, it’s too soon to tease too heavily. But, I’ll throw out a small segment of tips from one of the supplemental materials that is packaged with the project (multiple products – a big bundle? yup.)
So here’s your first nibble – just to skim the surface. A handful of Tips from a rather large list. 50? 75? more?
Perhaps:
Tip #24: Twitter SEO
Optimize your pages and content with Twitter info. Try to include your “follow” tag where appropriate. Create additional pages that are devoted to sharing that information or focus them on more personal pages (like an about page). Make it an easy, one click method to follow you and include your username for people who aren’t ready to click just yet but may be willing to remember your name for later.
Tip #25: Keepin it Local
Twitter is a great tool for local marketing, and tools like gpstwit.com can help a business seek out and locate connections with local users. You can also use http://search.twitter.com as discussed in the ultimate twitter videos to locate users based on keywords and location.
Tip #26: Autolove
Use SocialOomph to add some oomph to your Twitter. You can setup autoresponders by mail and auto-follow your new followers. You can also preload tweets so you don’t need to stop what you’re doing all the time to stay engaged. People will think you’re there typing in the moment.
Tip #27: Mind the Hard Sell
Only include a link in your auto-responder email that links to something extremely relevant and very interesting. This isn’t the time to sell to someone. While their interest is at its highest in you at the time they follow you, it’s not the time to whip out the sales handshake. Share useful content or go home.
Tip #28: “Aint no Followback girl”
It’s a good idea to follow those that follow you, otherwise you can be perceived as rude. Keep in mind that you don’t have to follow everyone. If you follow people with unprofessional or offensive names you can give the wrong impression to your existing followers or those who want to follow you in the future that spend time examining the names you already follow.
Tip #29: Be Prompt
Since Twitter allows followers to send direct messages as well as public messages, it’s likely that people who newly follow you may message you depending on their level of interest. If they do, respond as quickly as you can. Make a good first impression and those people will be more likely to engage you.
Tip #30: Be Controversial
Sometimes it pays to post something that grabs attention. You never know what will go viral, even if it means being a <censored> once in a blue moon.
Tip #31: Be Personal
Share info about yourself along with your more valuable content so that people can feel like they’re connected to a person. If you want to post useless facts about the world, do that as well.
Tip #32: Analytics
Track your tweets and clicks and retweets and everything that goes with. You should know which posts get the most buzz and which ones tank. Use a service like Bit.ly or Clicky that provide URL shortening and tracking on the number of clicks through your shortened URL’s. Another effective one is Budurl.com. If you closely watch all your tweets, you’ll begin to see the type of content that you’re followers like and you can shift your focus to that area.
