Twitter is quickly becoming a dominating tool in online marketing campaigns, linking thousands of people together in one screaming mass of handshakes, pats on the back and note-passing a la 4th hour English. We can’t deny the power of Twitter when you see major news networks and media icons boasting twitter accounts to handle special stories, topics, and personal as well as business networking.
The other popular method of doing this is through Blogging. Not only are you sharing ideas, thoughts and opinions but you’re able to cross link and network with other users in similar markets. The opportunity for marketing between the two is endless, and driving traffic through these two tools is become easier as the months press on.
If you haven’t linked the two, you’re missing out on some major traffic. Twitter is a fantastic tool for promoting and driving traffic to your Blog. The twitter network provides immediate exposure and unlimited traffic potential when you consider that each user who reads your content has the ability to retweet it – similar to an email forward, but faster and less spammy.
It isn’t necessary for you to try to manually shorten your URL’s or copy and paste, write up a short title for each, etc. There’s a fantastic WordPress plug-in that can handle this for you.
Twitter Tools
Well the first thing you need to do, obviously, is download the Twitter Tools plugin. You can either download the plug-in and upload it via FTP. (Download the .zip file, extract it to a folder and upload that folder to your site under “blog-name/wp-content/plugins”)
Alternatively, you can do a search for plug-ins and find Twitter Tools through your wordpress dashboard. This method lets you install it directly without the need for FTP and file uploads.
Once you’ve installed the plugin, you’ll actually find four separate listings under your plug-ins section related to Twitter Tools
The primary plugin “Twitter Tools” is your objective here. Click to activate that plug-in, then choose ‘Settings‘. You will need to input your Twitter username and password. You will then need to set the ‘Enable option to create a tweet when you post to your blog‘. Select ‘Yes‘ in the drop down menu. Don’t forget to set the ‘Tweet prefix for a new blog post‘. This is the first part of each tweet message

At this point you don’t need to change any other options. The plug-in is now configured to deliver all your new posts to your Twitter account, in tweet-friendly format. Every post will have a bit.ly url generated and integrated into every post, so even if your blog post has a particularly long url you can still share it safely via twitter
For such a simple installation, you can expect a rush of traffic through your social media account on Twitter – now you just need to build up followers!
