5 Great Blog Tips For Dummies

There are few absolutes when it comes to content marketing and putting up a powerful blog for your business.  While there may not be absolutes, time has given us a hell of a lot of “best practices” guidelines, blog tips and general rules that we should follow to lead us toward success.  They’re never perfect and they don’t often apply to every  blog or every market (Rules are made to be broken after all) but there is are a lot of blog tips out there to get you blogging right to boost traffic.

Here are 5 great blog tips to get the comments flowing on your site

1) Controversial headlines: Generate a headline that is a complete opposite to what people generally expect.  When you take a bizarre stance that is obviously controversial you can really put people on edge and push their buttons.  Some people just can’t help but share the content as well as post their rebuttals in the comments.  The headlines you create should engage the reader somehow, whether through upsetting them into action, causing them to think through a question or simply spurring them on to comment through controversy.

2)  Keep your content short: Some topics just require longer posts, but if you want to generate comments and keep people interested until the end then it’s a good idea to keep content fairly short.  Don’t exclude information just to keep it short but the longer a post is the more people will skim over the contents.  Skimming puts people in a position where they skip through and leave.  users will be less likely to comment, so stick to blog tips like this for your blog to keep people engaged.

3) Hold your ground: If you waffle in the middle of your post or start spitting out various sides of an argument then people won’t know where you stand and they won’t feel the need to comment.  If you cover most of the sides of an argument, why should anyone comment and state their side of it – you already did it for them?  Stick to it, hold your ground and remember these blog tips to keep people arguing in your comments

4) Try to end your posts with a question: If you query your readers to get them to post their thoughts, there’s a better chance that you can get a comment.  Restate your point or argument to keep people on task and remind them that they have something to say.

5) Pack a punch: The start of your post should have a strong right hook and the end of your post should pretty much kick them in the jimmy.  Stuff the middle with enough supporting content to effectively knock them around and by the end of the post your reader should feel like a red headed step-child that’s been inspired do what you tell them.  Provide them substance that packs a punch and you’re certain to get more engagement from the readers.

While general information posts aren’t likely to gain a lot of comments, nor will blog tips posts, but it’s worth a shot.

Do you think your blog has the potential to be a sacred unicorn or just another donkey with a plunger on his forehead?
